Dear son, brother, husband, father, passed away on October 13, 2017, from pancreatic cancer.

Craig was born July 19, 1960, in St. Paul to Richard Sr. and Margaret (Basch) Zellmer. He attended St. Casimir’s elementary school and graduated from Johnson High School in 1978. While attending Bemidji State University, Craig met his future wife, Karla Warner. They were married June 16, 1984, in Long Prairie, Minnesota. Their son, Matthew, was born in 1986 and their daughter, Meghan, was born in 1990. Craig was very proud of both his children and all their accomplishments. Over the years, he attended many of their sporting events. He spent a memorable weekend in Nebraska coaching Matt’s club hockey team and also was an assistant coach for Meghan’s Special Olympic floor hockey team. When he was a student at BSU, Craig began working part time at UPS washing trucks at night. He then became a UPS delivery driver. After several years, he became a supervisor at UPS, then was promoted to business manager. He worked in UPS facilities in Bemidji, Fergus Falls, Brainerd/Wadena, Minneapolis, Eagan, and Maple Grove. After 33 years of service, he retired from UPS in July 2015. Craig volunteered on the Fergus Falls United Way Allocation Committee and on the Crow Wing County United Way board, where he served as president in 1999. He also served on the Brainerd Amateur Hockey Association board. During retirement, Craig was a volunteer at the Science Museum of Minnesota and had recently become certified as an AARP Driver Safety Course instructor. He also volunteered to teach the UPS Road Code classes at area Boys and Girls Clubs. Craig loved to travel and he was blessed to have taken many vacations with family and friends over the years. He was especially thankful to take family on trips to Cancun, Mexico; Portland, Oregon; Baltimore, Maryland; and Lucerne, Switzerland in 2017. Craig was preceded in death by his father, Richard Sr.; brother, Robert “Tony”; sister-in-law, Melinda Zellmer and mother-in-law, Janet Warner. He is survived by his wife, Karla and children, Matthew and Meghan; mother, Margaret Zellmer; siblings, Rose (Michael) Marsh, Randy (Jodi) Zellmer, Paul (Kristie) Zellmer, Christine (Brent) Michalski, and Richard Jr. (Julie) Zellmer; his father-in-law, Roger Warner; brothers-in-law, Greg (Ann) Warner and Jeff Warner; many dear nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles and Basch and Zellmer cousins. He also leaves many close friends who mourn his loss and the “chance to grow old together”. A visitation will take place Thursday, Oct. 19 from 4-8 p.m. at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul. A funeral mass will take place on Friday, Oct. 20 at 10 a.m. at Assumption Church, 51 W. 7th St., St. Paul. Private interment in the Miller Family plot in St. Mary’s Cemetery in White Bear Lake will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Craig’s name to the South Region Stars Special Olympic team or Highland Friendship Club.
