“A quiet, faithful woman” best describes Sr. Mary Estelle Dwyer, CSJ. Born Bernardine Ann in the farm lands of Rochester, Minnesota on June 11, 1927, Sr. Mary Estelle died peacefully on November 3, 2017 Carondelet Village in St. Paul. One of six children from parents of Irish and Norwegian descent, Sr. Mary Estelle joined the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, making final vows in 1949, and graduated from St. Catherine University earning a BA in English and Education. Soon after graduation she began working as a teacher in several parish schools in the Twin City area. As time passed she felt called to nursing and after studies at St. Mary’s Junior College, Sr. Mary Estelle began her work at St. Mary’s Hospital and Rehabilitation Center and later at Bethany Convent. A lover of music, crafts, and gardening, she was also very proud of her Irish heritage. Preceded in death by her parents Nester Dwyer and Clara Stettum Dwyer, her sister Mary, and brothers Leo, Patrick and George Dwyer. Mary Estelle is survived by her sister Kathleen Geiger and many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial, 11:00 AM, Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at Our Lady of the Presentation Chapel, 1884 Randolph Avenue, St. Paul, MN, with Visitation at 10:00 AM preceding Mass. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery in Mendota Heights, MN, following the luncheon at the Carondelet Center in St. Paul. Memorials preferred to the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet Ministries Foundation.
