January 10, 2018
Rother, Bernard R. of Mendota Heights, MN; having spent the last 10 years reading the obituaries, looking for his name, has finally made it. Skip, as he was known to most, passed away on January 10, 2018 after a long battle with ESRF. Skip grew up on his parents’ farm in Hampton, MN. He graduated from Randolph High School, and spent many years working as a field chemist for Ashland Oil, Koch Refinery, and Williams Pipeline. Skip also spent a brief period working for Ecolab, before retiring. Skip was an avid dancer, particularly enjoying polkas. In his youth, Skip was an avid hunter, and enjoyed fishing when he was older. He was especially fond of attending auctions after retirement.
Skip was preceded in death by his parents, Bernard J. and Cecilia (Tix) and sister, Bernadine Safe. Skip is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Joyce (Larson); children, Aaron (Carol) Renee (Nick Thraen), Mark (Rie) and Rebecca; grandchildren; Brandon and Emily Rother, Hailey Thraen and Emi Rother; brother, Jack (Shelby); many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. He is also survived by his loyal dog, Lacie.
Our thanks to the caring doctors and nurses in ICU, and the palliative care team at St. John’s Hospital in Maplewood for taking him to the end of his journey. Thanks to Dr. Shannon Doyle, her fellow doctors and the staff at Davita Dialysis who worked to give him the best quality of life possible. A special thank you to Carol Rother, who took on the role of his daytime caretaker and dialysis coordinator extraordinaire.
