George Ann Bohl, CSJ
Dependable, devoted, and determined to make a difference, this selfless servant was born Marcella Ann, on May 15, 1939 to George and Ann (Thell) Bohl. She died on June 25, 2021 at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. In 1957 she entered the community of the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet, and was given the name “George Ann.” After receiving a BA in Education and Theology from the College of St. Catherine (1962), she taught elementary education at St. Anne in LeSueur, MN, Guardian Angels in Hastings, MN, St. Pascal in St. Paul, MN, St. Thomas the Apostle in Minneapolis, MN, St. John the Baptist in Excelsior, MN, and St. Croix Valley Catholic in Stillwater, MN. In 1980 she left teaching to work at the St. Joseph Administration Center Business office and later spent nearly 20 years at Bethany Convent, serving as assistant director of community living and as part of the administration team. Among her many volunteer experiences were Catholic Charities, Midway Hospice, Habitat for Humanity, the Gift Shop at Carondelet Village, and tirelessly advocating for those in need, by writing letter after letter to legislators and presidents! As a sister of St. Joseph, George Ann always felt she was part of a “loving, caring, bonded together group of women, who used their talents to serve and change the world for the better.”
