John Joseph Reis, age 91, of Lilydale, Minnesota passed away on Saturday February 6, 2021 at Walker Methodist Westwood Ridge in West St. Paul, Minnesota due to complications related to Covid-19. John was born in New York on June 18, 1929 to Arnold and Margaret Reis (Sullivan). His family then moved to New Jersey, where John attended Catholic school. He served his country as a member of the United States Air Force during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1954, and later that year, married the love of his life, Betty, in Fort Worth, Texas. The couple returned to Betty’s home state of Minnesota, where John attended college and raised his two children. John graduated with a finance degree from the University of Minnesota in under three years. He then began a successful career in the banking industry which he enjoyed well into his 70s. In his spare time, John was an avid golfer and enjoyed vacations in the Brainerd Lakes area: Craguns, Maddens and Grandview Lodge. Everyone who met John instantly recognized his wonderful sense of humor – he was constantly cracking jokes and making the people around him laugh with his colorful stories. John is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Betty Mae Reis (Hill), son Kevin Reis (Jeanell), daughter Cynthia Holmsten (Charles); grandchildren Allison Ethen (Nicholas), Madeline Reis, Andrew Holmsten and Alexander Holmsten. Thank you for the wonderful compassionate care provided at Walker and by Allina Hospice. Funeral Mass and Fort Snelling burial to be scheduled at a later date.
