Peter G. Seifert March 2, 1937 - January 25, 2019

Of St. Paul, Minn., loving husband, father and friend, died January 25, 2019.  He is with his Lord, rejoined with parents Frank & Corinne and older sister Carolyn, and survived by his devoted wife Beverly of 53 years, five children Ann (David) McMonagle, Michael (Teresa), Gregory (Sara), David (Christina) and Amy (Samuel) Roberto, eight grandchildren Genevieve, Joseph, Julianna, Gabriella, Laura, Jacqueline, Anja and Nora, sister Ann (Vernon) Kuhn, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends.  He leaves behind his beloved Nisswa, Minn., and his fond memories of waterskiing behind a mid-century Chris-Craft Sportsman filled with friends and family on the Gull Lake chain.  Dad graduated from Cretin HS in 1955, St. Johns in 1959, and the U of MN in 1961.  His favorite song was “Pomp and Circumstance No. 1.”  As an electrical engineering student, he kept the secretaries from lunching on his oversized lab bench by placing a high-power resistor on it with a sign that read: “Warning: 1 Million Ohms.”  He proudly spent his meaningful early career at Control Data Corp. designing special-purpose cryptoanalysis supercomputers used to crack cold-war codes and keep the peace.  Later, as a pioneering real-time OS programmer, he built instrumentation and simulation systems for the US Navy and NASA, including an Apollo lunar module simulator.  He said real programmers only need two keys: 1 and 0.  Always a planner, he installed a garage charging port in 1969 for the forthcoming widespread adoption of electric vehicles.  A careful and patient teacher, he taught his children countless useful lessons in RV driving, number theory, conductor ampacity, and in his final days, the Excel function now().  He will be greatly missed and will be celebrated regularly with family travel, special egg, mint juleps, trips on the St. Croix, Notre Dame football, corned beef hash, and gatherings at Gladstone Lake.  In lieu of flowers, please direct donations to Fr./Dr. Rick Frechette’s Haiti programs at www.nphusa.org/stdamien/.  Visitation 4 to 8 PM Monday (Feb. 4) at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul and mass 10 AM Tuesday (Feb. 5) at Nativity of Our Lord, 1900 Stanford Ave., St. Paul.
