Obituary of Clare Maturen

Clare Maturen age 91 of St. Paul passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 28, 2022. She is proceeded in death by her ever-loving husband of 65 years, John Daniel Maturen; parents, Jacob & Elizabeth Dech; brothers, Bill (Dee) and Jim (Thora); sisters, Marcia (Vic) Berra and Tess (Rob) Lodge; grandson, Reid Weiland. Survived by her four loving children and their spouses, Daniel (Deb), Michele, Stephanie (Steve) Weiland, and Paul (Amy); 7 beautiful grandchildren and their significant others, J.D.(Mia), Stephen (Abby), Rita, Bobby, Kathleen Richardson, Rachel (Andrew); great-grand-daughter, Zoë Faye; sister, Pat Gange (Dech); also many nieces and nephews. Clare was born in St. Paul to Elizabeth and Jacob Dech. She went to grade school and high school at St. Agnes in St. Paul where she made lifelong friends. She was actively involved in her schools' musicals and extracurricular programs. At an early age, Clare took up playing the violin and this began her lifelong love of performing classical music. In 1955 Clare married the love of her life, John Daniel Maturen. After living a few years in Duluth, MN, John's career took them to St. Paul where they began to raise their family. Clare was a wonderful homemaker, mother and was always there for her children. Clare continued with her violin playing joining the 3M orchestra as a violinist for 30 years and continued on with the St. Paul Civic Symphony for another 20 years. John, Clare and family moved to Mahtomedi and made this their home for 27 years. During this time, Clare attended St. Catherine's University where she received her degree in Communications. She remained an ardent supporter of her beloved alma mater and was proud to call herself a "Katie". John and Clare built their dream home in Forest Lake and lived there for 17 years. They moved to their final home in Lilydale, MN and lived there for 10 years. At all her homes, Clare maintained beautiful yards and gardens, especially her beloved roses, which her dad taught her to grow. Clare was a dedicated Catholic and had a strong faith which she instilled in her children and grandchildren. For many years Clare was an active member at the Cenacle Sisters prayer group in Wayzata, MN. Clare loved spending time with her husband and family. She was so proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchild and she loved them deeply. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5th at the Church of the Assumption, 51 West 7th Street, St. Paul, MN 55102. Visitation 1 hour prior to mass. Luncheon following mass with interment at Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Hospice. Special thanks to the caregivers and staff at The Alton Memory Care and Our Lady of Peace Hospice. Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, May 5th at the Church of the Assumption, 51 West 7th Street, St. Paul, MN 55102. Visitation 1 hour prior to mass.
