Obituary of Thomas William McKernon

The family of Thomas (Tom) McKernon of St. Paul, is saddened to announce his passing on September 26, 2021 at the age of 84 years. Tom was born on January 1, 1937, in Ellsworth, WI, to Lyman and Agnes (Krings) McKernon. A proud Eastsider, Tom attended St. Patrick's Grade School then Johnson High School; graduating in 1955. He was a member of the US Naval Reserve from 1954-1962. On September 07, 1963, he married Judy Klehr and together they raised three sons. Tom worked for the Minnesota Highway Department also serving as the AFSCME local President. In 1969 he started working for the St. Paul Chapter of the National Electrical Contractor's Association. He served as the Chapter's Executive Director from 1986 until his retirement in 1995. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, woodworking, reading and spending time at the cabin. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Lyman and mother Agnes; his sister, Mary, and his grandson Jacob, and many friends. Tom is survived by wife Judy; his sons, James (Katherine), Michael (Andrea), Mark (Kari), and his siblings, Joan (Pat) Payton, Dick, Ginny (Steve) Vinck, John, Kathy (Tom) Miller. Tom was the proud Grandfather of Caitlin, Mitchell, Maegan, Joe, John, Jack and the great-grandfather of Karley, Klohi, Piper and Quinten. He is also survived by cousins, nieces, nephews, and many other family members and friends. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30AM Thursday, September 30th, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 1900 Stanford Ave, St. Paul, MN with Visitation one hour prior to the Mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to Deep Portage Learning Center, Hackensack, MN 56452. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30AM Thursday, September 30th, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, 1900 Stanford Ave, St. Paul, MN with Visitation one hour prior to the Mass.
