"Stairway to Heaven" Song by Led Zeppelin "There’s a lady who’s sure all that glitters is gold And she’s buying a stairway to heaven When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed With a word she can get what she came for Ooh, ooh, and she’s buying a stairway to heaven There’s a sign on the wall, but she wants to be sure ‘Cause you know sometimes words have two meanings In a tree by the brook, there’s a songbird who sings Sometimes all of our thoughts are misgiven You know There’s a feeling I get when I look to the west And my spirit is crying for leaving In my thoughts I have seen rings of smoke through the trees And the voices of those who stand looking That’s you And it’s whispered that soon, if we all call the tune Then the piper will lead us to reason And a new day will dawn for those who stand long And the forests will echo with laughter Remember laughter? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah… And it makes me wonder If there’s a bustle in your hedgerow, don’t be alarmed now It’s just a spring clean for the May queen Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run There’s still time to change the road you’re on Your head is humming and it won’t go, in case you don’t know The piper’s calling you to join him Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow, and did you know Your stairway lies on the whispering wind? And as we wind on down the road Our shadows taller than our soul There walks a lady we all know Who shines white light and wants to show How everything still turns to gold And if you listen very hard The tune will come to you at last When all is one and one is all, that’s what it is To be a rock and not to roll, oh yeah And she’s buying a stairway to heaven" “David Leo Schaeffer Jr. died on July 5th 2021, at 3pm CST. He was father to three boys, their names are, Jacob Norman, Samuel Joseph, and Andrew James. Their ages are 22, 20, and 18 years old. He is son of David Leo,(stepmom Tana), Schaeffer; and MaryLee Florence,(stepdad Dan Norman), Schaeffer. David’s Niece is Nichole Lee Longacre. And he is brother to Kimberly Marie,(husband Tony), Mann; Dennis Lee Schaeffer, and myself Dean Lee Schaeffer. David died in our arms that day. His son Andrew was holding his hand and his son Samuel was at his side. His son Jacob was close. I was at his feet. We did not take our hands off of their father until Andrew quietly called out, a moment later Samuel called out as well. We said our prayers and all three of us texted Jacob at the exact same time. I called our mom and the boys called their mom and then we called in the real world. The nurse calmly and quietly and with dignity checked David’s breathing and for a long time listened for his heartbeat. And then she quietly said that David had passed. The boy’s mother arrived quickly and we prayed together for David. Then the boys went home with their mom and I drove to my mom’s house where she and my stepdad were there to greet me. Thank you so much. My mom spoke of the minister and David’s memorial. I roared that no one would write my brother’s eulogy but me. And then stormed out of the house. Then I turned around in the yard and roared at the front door that I got my own words to say and I will say them myself. Then I turned and walked directly into the maple tree. As I was driving away I thought, "what is a eulogy?" So I looked up the definition of a eulogy and it said; to praise highly, to speak or write in commendation of another, especially as a symbol of Christian love. Let this be David’s Eulogy. Thank you for being here to show love for David’s life. And for being sad with us. Speaking well of others accomplishments, showing current remorse, and hope for the future, is a tradition for Minnesotans. We hear the Minnesota Vikings give eulogies every year. So may it be appropriate to quote our current beloved quarterback of the Minnesota Vikings in which he says, “We work complementary for each other.” These words are one of David’s naturally inclined character traits. David cared for others and recognized their suffering and had deep respect for that. So he tried to cheer people up. With what all of his friends called his sense of humor. They claimed it was another complementary character trait that David displayed. I never understood his sense of humor. I always thought that every time I listened to one of his jokes that I did out of a sense of hope for him. Only to realize that another millisecond of my life has just been influenced. As his brother I say that David brought his sense of humor with him but thank you for the compliment on his behalf. David’s love was prominent for his three boys, his friends, and the rest of his family. One of his motto's was, "Take care of momma, and take care of others." His boys seem to have heard his words. David loved his friend’s whole soul. Mostly all of the time. I love his friends rightly because anybody that puts up with David must be patient and kind. And they kept David busy in wholesome activity. Mostly all of the time. As I was searching for nice things to say about David from his friends they confirmed their love for him. Thank you so much. David loved sharing his life with you and you sharing your lives with him. David did love astronomy and photography. He did go to highschool in Inver Grove Heights. He did continue his education at Mankato State. And he did serve time in the Army. At David’s burial he will be given a 21 gun salute. He will be so proud of this when we tell him this in Resurrection. David spent a career in sales. I often walk in public and someone comes up to me to say hi to David. I tell them I am his twin brother and often have to show identification to prove it. All of these strangers that approached me showed love for David. David's neighbors became his friends and so many reached out to our family to show love, respect, share stories, and to be sad together. Thank you so much. David's friend Heather has been here for us the whole time and his family refers to her family as their family. And I will always be grateful for the unselfish love that David's friends Zach and Alysia displayed and brought to life for the purposes of David's needs. Thank you so much Alysia and Zach. May your cause of kindness be stored as treasure in Heaven. And I will always share the things I have with you. I have to speak of medical concerns for David's voice. He suffered severe head trauma as an adolescent and it took me 30 years to realize how much he suffered as an adult for this. The trauma he suffered progressed throughout his life until he became a vulnerable adult. And his friends Alysia and Zach took care of him through the rest of his life. Thank you so much. Another of David's most prized possessions was his faith. He believed in a man named Jesus whom sacrificed himself for David's mistakes. We know the words. His faith is as solid and evidential to himself as much as the physical Universe exists. He did read his Good Book, The Bible, regularly because he believed and wished to understand more. He quoted the Book often. He looked forward to the next life in which he agreed was the promised paradise from the book he was reading. His foremost hope was what he could not or would not give to himself, so he offered it freely to everyone else. It was forgiveness of mistakes that David was looking for. David did agree that his hope in Jesus would be the forgiveness of his mistakes. His faith by word of Good Book tells him that at death all sins are forgiven. In this regard David shall be set free. I am so grateful for this. Thank you so much. David also agreed that in those days Jesus would touch him and also heal all of us. I agree with him. In those days the real life will start. It is spoken of as the re-creation. We know it as, Thy Kingdom Come. In the meantime David has scriptures all over the walls in his home. One of them said to love each other. That was evident in David's life, first and foremost. As David's mind continued to hurt he believed and leaned into Jesus words to love each other. I looked the words up myself and they are there. There are also words that are comforting to me. They say to continue to put up with one another. Oh how restful. Always I love all of you, sometimes I don't like some of you at any given moment. Word says that Jesus understands this and he charges us to love one another. These words are solid whereas like is as fickle as my mood. Same with David. He loves more than he suffered. And yer damn right I will speak my own words in testimony for his sake. I agree with David that we will meet in the next world because Jesus sacrificed his own life which will course all people to be resurrected. However we may perceive this. David's solid gift of faith was offered freely through our mother. Throughout our whole lives her own quiet faith expressed itself without charging David or myself into compulsory service. David and myself happily joined our mother to worship freely and share the hope that has been shared with us. And now instilled in our souls. Thank you so much. And the final part for David that I would like to share on this day is his humbleness toward, at least, myself. Humble by definition means to put other people’s concerns in high regard and to understand them. Humble means to allow ourselves to be taught. And humble means to accept that which we learn to be evidentiary as true and to live as such. David believed in the love of Jesus and humbled himself for this reason. I agree with David that saying goodbye to our loved ones in death is only temporary. And I will look forward to the days in which we will have resurrection parties. In which really has been the story of David's life. And that is to share life and all good things for the sake of love." Thank you so much. Love, Dean "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother" Song by The Hollies "The road is long With many a winding turn That leads us to who knows where Who knows where But I’m strong Strong enough to carry him He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother So on we go His welfare is of my concern No burden is he to bear We’ll get there For I know He would not encumber me He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother If I’m laden at all I’m laden with sadness That everyone’s heart Isn’t filled with the gladness Of love for one another It’s a long, long road From which there is no return While we’re on the way to there Why not share And the load Doesn’t weigh me down at all He ain’t heavy he’s my brother He’s my brother He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother, he ain’t heavy" "Enoch kept walking with the true God. Then he was no more, for God took him" Genesis 5:24. "One for My Baby (And One More for the Road)" Song by Bette Midler "Quarter to three there’s no one in the place Except you and me So set ’em up, Joe got a little story I think you should know We’re drinkin’, my friend, to the end Of a sweet episode Make it one for my baby And one more for the road Got the routine so drop another nickel In the machine Oh, gee, I’m feelin’ so bad wish you’d make the music So dreamy and sad You could tell me a lot but it’s not In a gentleman’s code Let’s make it one for my baby And one more for the road You may not know it but buddy you’re a kind of poet And you’ve had a lot of things to say And when I’m gloomy you always listen to me Until it’s talked away Well, that’s how it goes And John I know you’re getting anxious to close So, thanks for the cheer I hope you didn’t mind me bending your ear For all of the years, for the laughs, for the tears For the class that you showed Make it one for my baby and one more for the road That long long road" "Our Father who art in Heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on Earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen." Matthew 6:10-13. "Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are loveable, whatever things are well spoken of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praise worthy, continue considering these things. The things that you learned as well as accepted and heard and saw in connection with me, practice these, and the God of peace will be with you." Philippians 4:8,9. "He gives power to the tired one and full might to those lacking strength. Boys will tire out and grow weary, and young men will stumble and fall, but those hoping in Jehovah will regain power. They will soar on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not tire out." Isaiah 40:29-31. "David, I will see you in the next life." David was the best man. I don't think I'll ever meet someone with as good of a heart as David. He found such great joy in taking care of others and making them laugh. My children adored him. He took the time to get to know with them. He always made sure every kid at the ice cream truck got a treat. I hope I never forget the sound of his loud laugh. We all loved David so much.
