Obituary of Gregory Klaverkamp

Age 51, St. Paul, MN We’ve lost our brother, our uncle, our son, our friend, our…Greg. His presence in our lives is irreplaceable. We need him, and the thought of living without him is unbearable. He was a remarkable and inimitable spirit, a wonderful human being, full of wonders. Whether amid the stress and trouble of life or the joy and humor of it, Greg was a deep source of kindness, grace, wisdom, laughter, and gentleness. His patience and generosity held us in a kind of awe, because none of us could match him in the practice of those virtues. And now we are left with his example to guide us, without his daily reminders. His kindness and gentleness extended not only to people but to animals as well, who could not have had a better friend. Greg went to St. Louis Park public schools and then to Lawrence University in Appleton, WI, taking a degree in Slavic Languages. He loved all things Russian and spent much time in the former Soviet Union and Russia, charming the people there with his open personality and perfect Russian accent. He worked in the hotel/restaurant industry for many years, including stints as manager at the Pebble Beach Country Club in Monterey, CA; Jimmy John’s, Buca di Beppo and Chili’s, all in the Twin Cities. He later became a manager and consultant in the pet-boarding industry, and was instrumental in the launch and management of the Animal Humane Society’s pet-boarding facility, Now Boarding. Preceded in death by mother, Sharon. Survivors include: father, Paul; sister, Lisa; two brothers, Joel (Kathryn), Jon (Anne Hodgson); nieces, Anna, Frances, Mariel; nephews, Charles, Soren, Henry, Max. Memorials preferred to donor’s favorite animal charity. Services to be announced.
