Obituary of A. Paul Karel

Age 87 Of Inver Grove Heights Passed away May 23, 2014 after a courageous fight with cancer. Paul was born on June 29, 1926 as the 5th of 7 children to Louis and Anna Karel. Paul enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served on a landing ship in the South Pacific until 1946. He returned home and met the love of his life, Angela "Angie" Bastyr and was married in October of 1947. He began work as a tool and die maker, but in 1954, he joined the St. Paul Police Department and served as a patrolman for 20 years. In 1974, he joined Hartzell Manufacturing and served as Plant Superintendent until he retired in 1988. Survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Angie; his six children, Richard (Elizabeth), David (Laurel), Michael (Jill), Ronald (Margaret), Steven (Taffy) and Paula (Rocky) Bullis; 20 grandchildren, Mindy (Latham) Boe, Bryan (Kari), Chris, Matt (Rachel), Tim, Julie, Kristi (Neil) Sjostrom, Dan, Brad, Nick, Joe, Amy (Sam) Hanson, Dean, Alyssa, Sam, Andy, Adam, Paige Bullis, Lauren Bullis, and Blake Bullis; 8 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon Karel and his 18 nieces, nephews and their families. Preceded in death by parents, Louis and Anna Karel; siblings and spouses, Lillian & Herbert Kabesh, George & Harriet Karel, Rose and Walter Witzke, Frances & John Masek, James & Alice Karel, and Robert Karel. The family wishes to thank the staff of Woodwinds Hospital for the extraordinary care he received this past week. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 28th at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 789 17th Avenue North, South St. Paul. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation at Willwerscheid Natural Burial and Cremation, 235 W Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul 4-8 PM Tuesday, May 27th and at church 1 hour prior to Mass. Memorials preferred to Our Lady of Peace Cancer Home.
