Obituary of Peter George Schlagel
Peter G. Schlagel, age 83, of Mendota Heights, died July 21, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. Preceded in death by daughter, Carolyn (age 2); wife of 51 years, Joan; parents, George and Frances; siblings, Eddie, Margaret, Bob and Genny. Survived by children, Leanne (Chris), Andy (Michelle), Nikki (Sean), and Tom (Allison); grandchildren Maddie, Ryan, Aidan, Jenna, and Graham; sister, Rita; and many more family and friends. A bricklayer for more than 40 years, Pete was the sole proprietor of Schlagel Masonry. His work can be found throughout the Twin Cities, in the form of chimneys, steps, stone walls, patios, fireplaces, and more. One of his proudest was the stonework on Dodge Nature Preschool in West St. Paul. He loved history, reading, bike riding, and chatting up anyone within earshot; he greeted everyone with a smile and was quick with a joke. He left no dog hungry by providing his canine grand-dogs with an endless supply of under-the-table treats. Pete’s kindness and sense of humor will be missed by all who were lucky to know him.
