Cleven Duncan

Obituary of Cleven Duncan

Cleven Duncan passed away due to heart failure in West St. Paul, MN on May 28th, 2024 at the age of 57.  Cleven is survived by Lindsay Taylor Duncan (née Olson) (wife);  Bryce Duncan (son); Rhonda McKinney (sister) and Gus Harrington (brother-in-law); Roy Lee Duncan (brother); and many beloved nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by Brenda Ellen King (née Thompson) (mother); Cleven Duncan (father); and Mannix Duncan (brother).

Cleven was born on April 5, 1967 in Chicago, Illinois to Brenda and Cleven Duncan.  While he spent his early life in Chicago, he found his way to Minnesota in his 30s after traveling for work.  Cleven started his career as a paramedic and commercial truck driver and after moving to Minnesota, began working for the Metropolitan Council of the Twin Cities. Shortly after, he started using his technical and computer skills in a  number of corporate roles while pursuing a career in law enforcement.

He met his wife Lindsay while working at Best Buy Corporate and they soon realized that their love of movies, music, and their shared sense of humor - connected them for life. They married in 2009 and lived in St. Paul for some time before settling into their home in West St. Paul.

Cleven graduated from Inver Hills Community College in 2011 with a degree in Criminal Justice, Law Enforcement.  He served communities of Waseca and the Metro Twin Cities area as a Law Enforcement Officer, Investigator, and Field Training Officer.  He retired in 2021 from the Metro Transit PD and continued to serve the state of Minnesota as a Service Liaison for the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Cleven was known for his desire to help others, learn and tinker until his heart’s content, build and make things, and would crack a joke at the right times with a glimmer in his eye. For as strong as he was outwardly, his quiet observant nature coupled with Cleven’s humor and compassion made for a generously strong man, inside and out. Through his line of work, he protected and saved those that needed it, and continued to give back after he retired. Outside of work he restored by spending time with his “gals” - Lindsay and Penny and through his many passions and hobbies.  He was most passionate about photography and recently took up welding.

In his final days, Cleven shared with Lindsay that his mom was on his mind and heart, and even made her banana pudding recipe on the 28th. Knowing they are together now brings peace during this challenging time.

The memorial is scheduled for June 8th at 11:15 at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave, St Paul, MN 55105. Visitation will be from 9:30-11:00.  All are welcome to attend to celebrate Cleven’s life.
