I am a fisherman and a member of a large fishing family that Annie worked with in Larsen Bay over the past years. She will be missed. My family and I were so sorry to hear the news of her death. Our condolences to all her family.

Annie: Too sudden, too soon! This is not the catch-up letter I expected to be writing. From reading your… (cannot believe I spell out “obituary”), I can see that you triumphed over some of life’s challenges. The last time we connected, Dakota was a little boy! I remember meeting you when we both were elementary/middle-school-age. Your family stayed at the Ecumenical Center and I lived in Flynntown when it was a neighborhood of families and local Elders. There was a limited group of kids to play “trench” and baseball with, and you fit right in. We needed a second baseman! Childhood friends make a lifelong impression. No matter how long it has been, our connection survives – my life-history shares a bit of tap root inter-tangled with yours. Your memorial tribute revealed a person whose life delighted in the simple pleasures of nature, friends and… fish! (Ha!) Your passing is a reminder that life is short and what matters most while we still have time to enjoy, is the beauty and joy we find in others and our world. My condolences to those you left behind. Rest in Peace, old friend.

I worked with Annie in the Kodiak School District. This took me by surprise. I loved her smile, and genuine care for others. We had some great laughs together. I am so sorry to hear this.

What a beautiful tribute to Annie (see obituary)! I am in shock to hear that she passed away at age 61. As I read this, my heart was breaking and my eyes filled with overflowing tears. Annie Spaeth was truly a wonderful, sweet, very fun yet sensitive, thoughtful Bennie friend, the kind you think of often and never forget. I lost touch with Annie after she moved to Alaska, but I will cherish all the good memories of talking and laughing with her, forever. Anyone who knew Annie knows that she loved to laugh a lot — big, deep, loud, hearty laughter, with a silly smile on her face, especially with her Rugby fans at the Middy in St. Joe during college, and with Bennie buds at Camperville back in the ’80s and ’90s! Annie will truly be missed by a very large group of Bennies & Johnnies. I feel blessed to have known Annie Spaeth, and will never forget her or her laughter and smile.
