Obituary of Dennis Lang

Dennis Lang age 73, of St Paul died peacefully at United Hospital on July 4. Preceded in death by his parents Siegfried and Mildred Lang. And is survived by siblings Gerald (Jennifer) and Richard (Suzette) and his beloved dog Allie along with many cousins, their spouses and families. Dennis made an impact on all those who loved and cared for him. A special thanks to his dear friend Ellen, to his cousin Kathy, to his Happy Hour family and to the oncology floor nurses and doctors at United Hospital. Dennis Lang graduated from the University of Minnesota with a major in cinema studies. He applied and was accepted into the prestigious Master of Fine Arts program in cinema at the University of Southern California. He left, not completing his degree to return home in St. Paul, Minnesota, the third generation to run the family apparel manufacturing business Energy Manufacturing Co. Dennis was featured in a documented article archived with the Minnesota Historical Society by Mary Christine Bader titled Made in Minnesota The Rise and Fall of an Apparel Industry. He began his free-lance writing career in 2007 and was awarded the Lamar York Prize in Nonfiction for his first feature, the study of a social worker at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. His subsequent nonfiction has appeared in a number of literary journals including Columbia Journal of Literature and Art, the Chattahoochee Review, Alaska Quarterly Review, Visual Anthropology Review, South Carolina Review and Confrontation the literary journal published by long Island University. Dennis spent most summers with family and friends at the family cabin on Deer Lake. He could always be found playing with the dogs, washing and waxing the cars, or in the boat working on his tan. At the end of the day, he would mix up a round of his famous cocktails for those who were gathering on the deck. Then, he would move on to being the grill master for Mildred, as she prepared wonderful meals for everyone. Those days created great memories. In lieu of flowers the family prefers donations be made in Dennis's name to the Oncology Fund at the United Hospital Foundation, 333 Smith Ave. N., St. Paul, MN 55102 A memorial service, officiated by Father Dinzeo, will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday July 19th at the Willwerscheid Funeral Home 1167Grand Ave., St. Paul.
