Obituary of Sister Denis Neville, CSJ

Age 96, of St. Paul Sr. Denis always “so blessed to have good health and the ability to serve others,” was born Lois Elizabeth, in Olivia, MN on July 9, 1919 and died February 20, 2016 at Carondelet Village in St. Paul. She earned a BS in Sociology and Education from the College of St. Catherine in 1957 and taught grades 1 and 2 in Twin Cities Catholic elementary schools for forty years. In 1985 she began pastoral ministry outreach with the elderly at St. Olaf Church in Minneapolis. She received the WCCO Good Neighbor Award for her work there in May, 2002. Described by friends and colleagues as “delightful, conscientious and hardworking” she brought enormous caring and energy to the classroom and to her pastoral ministry. Preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Neville and Catherine Cuski Neville; her sister, Helen Nicolai and brothers, George and William. She is survived by her nieces, Lois Birdwell, Mary Tucker and Nancy Mathison; nephews, Ken (Carol) Nicolai, Doug (Debbie) Nicolai, Richard, Jerry, Tony and George Neville; grand-nieces; grand-nephews and Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet and Consociates. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 24 at Our Lady of Presentation Chapel, 1880 Randolph Ave., St. Paul. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Visitation at the chapel 1 hour prior to Mass. Memorials preferred to the Sisters of St. Joseph Ministries Foundation, 1884 Randolph Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105.
