Obituary of Joseph Herbert Rivard

Age 85, Of Roseville Born on July 16, 1930, Joe Rivard of Roseville passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2016, due to complications associated with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn; three children — Kevin (Tammy), Maureen Collins (Mike) and David (Amy); six grandchildren — Ryan and Kelly Rivard, Brian and Katie Collins, Alexander and Nicholas Rivard; brother Jim and sisters Jeanne Dietz and Leona(Chick) Hall, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his mother Genevieve, father Anthony, sister Irene and brothers Art, Ray, Bob, Billy, Jackie and David. A native of Little Canada, Minnesota, Joe was a well-respected Saint Paul Attorney for nearly 50 years. Early in his career, he also served as a Ramsey County Judge for the Juvenile Division; an Assistant Sheriff and Constable in White Bear Lake, Minnesota and an Insurance Adjustor with Mutual Service Insurance. Joe was a graduate of the University of Minnesota and William Mitchell College of Law. He served in the U.S. Navy twice, and saw active combat during the Korean War. Joe had a passion for helping those less fortunate and found great joy in nurturing young people to set off on a path for success. He also found humor in every situation and filled people’s hearts with joy and laughter. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, great uncle and friend, Joe will be missed by countless individuals who had the privilege of knowing him. Mass of Christian Burial 12:00 Noon Tuesday, February 23 at the CHURCH OF ST. JOHN THE BAPTIST, 835 2nd Ave. NW, New Brighton, where he was a parishioner for more than 45 years. Interment Calvary Cemetery. Visitation at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul 4-8 PM Monday and at church 1/2 hour prior to Mass.
