Obituary of Virginia Barrick

Virginia Young Barrick, 99, of St. Paul, died Monday, February 15, 2016,at the St. Anthony Park Home. Her funeral service will be at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 2131 Fairview Ave., Roseville at 11:00AM on Monday, February 22, 2016. Visitation will be at the church for one hour before the service. Flora Virginia Young was born in St. Paul on July 24, 1916, to Flora (Ingram) Young and Frank X. Young. She grew up in St. Paul and graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy in 1933. After graduation, Virginia worked as a secretary at Prudential Insurance Company where she met Emory V. Barrick. In 1941, after Emory finished his FBI training in Quantico, VA, they were married in Philadelphia, PA. They lived briefly in Miami and then in Tennessee. While in Tennessee, Virginia worked for the Tennessee Valley Authority. In 1944 Emory was transferred to the Minneapolis FBI office. They bought a house in the St. Anthony Park area of St. Paul in 1945 and continued to live there the rest of their lives. Virginia was a full-time homemaker until her six children were grown. She was also an active member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church for over 60 years. After raising her family, Virginia worked part time at the St. Paul Campus Bookstore and as an election judge. Her summers were spent with Emory, her children and grandchildren at their lake home on Belle Lake near Hutchinson, MN. Virginia was always happiest when with family. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Emory in 1989, her son, William in 2012, her parents, and her siblings: Eleanor Young, Dorothy (John) Copeland, and Robert (Catherine) Young. She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Barrick, Kathleen (Dennis) Born, MaryBeth (Gary) Englund, Patricia (Fred) Erickson, and Barbara (Ray) Forliti, her daughter-in-law Mary Ellen (Bill) Barrick, her 8 grandchildren, and her 8 great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the St. Anthony Park Home or the Arthritis Foundation.
