Obituary of Jerry Springer

Of Mendota Heights MN and Palm Springs CA, age 85. Born Waseca MN. Died October 15, 2015. Preceded in death by his parents Joseph and Evelyn Springer of Owatonna and by his beloved wife of 47 years Marlene. He is survived by his son Joseph, daughter-in-law Joan Ireland and grandchildren Sean and Jesica of Shoreview, brother-in-law Brian Sullivan and spouse Li of Kuwait and brother-in-law Mike Sullivan and spouse Deborah Cuneo and daughter Mara of Mendota Hts. Jerry was raised in Owatonna and graduated from Owatonna High School (OHS) in 1948. He received a Bachelor of Science from Minnesota State University in 1952 and a Master of Arts from the University of Minnesota in 1963. He was selected as a Charter Member of the OHS Athletic Hall of Fame and was also inducted into the Minnesota State University Athletic Hall of Fame. Jerry earned ten letters in four sports at OHS and held five school records in basketball and track. He earned six letters in basketball and track at Minnesota State. Gerald was a business teacher and coordinator in the Minneapolis Public Schools for 35 years. He was also a tour manager for Cartan Travel for 12 years in the summers and later was a manufacturer's rep for gaming devices. He and Marlene loved travel, music and dancing. He was a very social person and will be missed by friends and family. Burial Forest Hill Cemetery, Owatonna. Memorials preferred to OHS Athletic Hall of Fame or Walker United Methodist Church.
