Obituary of Richard G. Bjorklund

Age 92, of Mendota Heights, went to be with the Lord on March 14, 2015, with family at his side in hospice care. He was able to celebrate, with his beloved wife Dorothy, their 68th Wedding Anniversary on March 8, 2015. Preceded in death by brother Leonard and sister Dorothy. Survived by wife, Dorothy; daughter Carol, sons Dick Jr. (JoanE) and David (Kathy); grandchildren Kelly (Bjorn), Maggie, Kari (Dan), Nikki (Colin); Brad (Teresa), Matt, Tiffany (Ben) and 5 great-grandchildren. He was born and raised in St. Louis Park, MN. He attended the Univ of North Dakota and was about to graduate when WWII began. By war’s end he was commanding officer of LCI ship #605 in the Pacific theater. After the war Dick and Dorothy settled in South St. Paul and soon after Mendota Heights, while working at Pockrandt Lumber, designing homes on the side and serving as Building Inspector for Sunfish Lake and Mendota Heights. In 1964 he became a full-time home builder and eventually his two sons would join Bjorklund Construction and continue his legacy of honesty, integrity and quality of workmanship. Faith, Family and Friends were his priorities as he enjoyed golfing, fishing, the lake and cribbage, which he played so well even during his final few years while suffering from Alzheimer’s. Services will be held Friday, March 20 at 11:30 AM, with Visitation one hour before at Augustana Lutheran Church, 1400 S. Robert St., West St. Paul. Visitation also on Thursday, March 19 at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 235 W. Wentworth Ave, West St. Paul, from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred.
