Obituary of Del G. Conroy

Age 95, of St. Paul Del was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran and an accomplished figure skater. After the war, he began his career at the US Postal Service from which he eventually retired as a station supervisor. Del continued with his lifelong passion, skating for the last time when he was 90 years old. He was a past president of the St. Paul Figure Skating Club and coached for the Shop Pond Gang and East Side Speed Skating Clubs. Generous with his time, he devoted much of his retirement volunteering with the State Services for the Blind and the Science Museum of Minnesota. He and Janet were long time members of St. Luke's Parish, now St. Thomas More Catholic Community. Del was active with the St. Paul Winter Carnival and a member of the Senior Royalty in 1995 and 2001. He will be dearly missed by Janet, his wife of 67 years; his 10 children, Kathleen Wells, Patrick (LuAnn), Michel Conroy (William Mayer), Kevin, Colleen (Ron) Johannsen, Terrence (Michelle), Mary Conroy, Brian (Kathleen), Kelly (Kerry) Feickert and Lou (Julie); 23 grandchildren; great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Bettenburg and Ellen McCellan; many friends and his canine companion, Ebony. Well done, good and faithful servant. Now take your rest. Memorial Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 AM Thursday, March 12 at the CHURCH OF ST. THOMAS MORE, Summit at Lexington. Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation 4-8 Wednesday at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul. The family gratefully extends its thanks to the nurses of Intrepid Hospice and the staff of Ecumen Lakeview Commons for the exceptional and compassionate care they provided to Del and his family. Memorials preferred to St. Thomas More.
