Katie R. Lund (Wessel)

June 20, 1947 - May 2, 2023

West St. Paul, passed away peacefully from dementia. Daughter of Jack and Corrine Wessel. Survived by husband Ron, his sons Jared and Aaron. Siblings John (Jane) Wessel, and Mary Daly; loving nieces, Betsy Daly, Jacqueline Phanthavong (Wessel); nephews, Geoffrey Daly, Tom Daly, & John Wessel; god-daughter, Michelle Mero Riedel; and many friends, especially The Nurses. A special thank you to the staff and workers at Lexington Pointe Memory Care Unit, Eagan, MN. Graduate of Sibley High School, Miller Hospital School of Nursing as an LPN. Was a Flight Attendant for North Central Airlines and retired from Northwest Airlines. Earned her RN degree while working at United Hospital. Was a member of The Church of The Assumption, sang and traveled with the choir, and volunteered her time there. The Wessel family and The Church of Assumption go back to 1857 when Mathias and Sophia Wessel arrived in St, Paul from Germany and joined Assumption. Katie is a true W. St Paulite. Lived most of her life within a 3-block area of the city. Was always ready for a good time, anywhere. Frequently traveled to Mt. Telemark, Cable, WI on weekends during ski season, but seldom brought her skis. Katie and several close friends attended Finishing School at Gallagher's White Elephant, where they studied and practiced bar room etiquette before turning 21. Finishing School was held during Minnesota's hunting and fishing seasons, when Gallagher's owners were away for opening fishing, duck, and deer seasons. Katie's brother John was a part-time bartender at Gallagher's during hunting seasons.

Visitation at Willwerscheid West-Heights Chapel, 235 W. Wentworth Ave., West St. Paul, Tuesday, June 6th, 4 to 7 PM. Wednesday, June 7th at The Church of The Assumption, 51 W. 7th St., St. Paul, visitation 9 AM followed by 10 AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Assemble at Area # 4 by 1:45, Service at 2:00 PM.
