Obituary of Mike Heinz

Heinz, Vincent "Mike" 80, of Broomfield, Colorado, passed away peacefully in his sleep at home on September 1, 2023. Mike was born on September 22, 1942 in St. Peter, Minnesota. He was the eldest of four children of Margaret and Vince Heinz. Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Susan, and her husband, John Johnson. He is survived by Barbara, his wife of 39 years, their three children: Michael Heinz (Timothy Koby), Elizabeth (Neil) Gulley and CJ Heinz, and his brothers, Joe (Peg) Heinz and Tom Heinz (Louise Miles), many in-laws, nieces, nephews and friends. After graduating from St. Thomas University with a B.A. in English, Mike proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, receiving a Purple Heart during his Vietnam deployment. Later he earned his Juris Doctorate from the Denver University School of Law. Returning to the Twin Cities, Mike began volunteering at St. Stephen's shelter and religious education program. It was there he met the love of his life, Barbara Anderson, and they married in 1984. A lifelong Catholic, Mike's steadfast belief was integrated into all aspects of his life, including his family, his work, and civic duty. He was a dedicated foster father and an ardent Pro-Life supporter. He served as Deputy District Attorney in Adam's County CO for over 30 years. In his final years as a public prosecutor, he was instrumental in establishing the Veteran's Court, which served veterans in the judicial system. Outside of his work, Mike was an avid hiker and enjoyed playing games, traveling, having a good cup of coffee and talking with family and friends. Funeral services for Mike were held on Thursday, September 7, 2023, at Spirit of Christ Catholic Community, 7400 W 80th Ave., Arvada, CO. A subsequent memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at Willwerscheid Funeral Home, 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul, MN 55105. Visitation at 12:00 pm, service at 1:00 pm, and burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Mike's name to Missionaries of Charity in Denver, CO, or a charity of your preference.
