Obituary of John G. Antoniou

John G. Antoniou, age 87, of St. Paul, Minnesota.

Born September 21, 1935, in Athens, Greece, passed away June 29, 2023, surrounded by his loving family. Preceded in death by his parents Anna and George Antoniou and two siblings, Irene and Evangelos, who died as very young children. Survived by the love of his life, Marina, his wife of 58 years; their children, Anna Antoniou (Peter Millett) and George (Christy) Antoniou; and grandchildren, Maddie Millett, Yanni and Julia Antoniou. Also survived by his two sisters, Triantafilia (Panayiotis) Katsaros and Vasiliki (Dimitrios) Karastergiou, nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends.

John graduated from the Technical Academy of the Greek Air Force and received diplomas in Mechanical, Electrical and Industrial Engineering from the Sivitanidios Technical School in Greece. He earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at the University of MN and began work on his MBA. He served in the Greek Air Force (1954-1966) before working in the defense industry in the US for 37 years as a Principal Electrical Engineer, where he gained numerous awards as project manager.

Through St. George Greek Orthodox Church, he held leadership positions spanning many years in the Parish Council, Sunday School, Greek School and AHEPA organization. Church and community meant everything to John, and his outreach efforts brought him personal satisfaction. He particularly enjoyed coaching youth soccer and working as a Greek-English interpreter for people in need. John was a loving and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be greatly missed by us all.

Visitation 4-7 PM, Monday, July 10 with Trisagion service at 6:30 PM at Willwerscheid Funeral Home 1167 Grand Ave., St. Paul. Funeral service 10 AM, Tuesday, July 11 at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1111 Summit Ave., St. Paul. Interment Roselawn Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
